Rise & Fly Together (R.A.F.T.)
“Rise and Fly Together” — just the name of this program sounds like fun. RAFT brings together 5 to 10 year old boys and girls in a safe, enriching environment to promote academics and personal growth.
There’s a strong focus on community activities, physical fitness and social skills — plus academics. It’s a full plate that involves interactive activities and concentrates on cultural and community enrichment, personal development and goal setting. Our goal is to build self confidence and inspire our youngsters to become successful citizens.
NDSA provides activities that will enrich the children’s lives and broaden their horizons. They learn table manners, how to resolve disagreements with their peers and the importance of maintaining healthy bodies and minds. The wide variety of activities also focus on supporting academic development and encouraging academic excellence. They learn the importance of being involved in the community and the world around them. For some youngsters, this will be their first exposure to the arts and African American history and heritage.
We call our physical fitness component “Raftercise.” Since childhood obesity is such a big focus today, RAFT includes a time for exercise in each session — nothing too strenuous, just 15 minutes to move, breathe and energize.
RAFT has so much to offer children residing in North Dallas and the surrounding suburbs. Sometimes parents, grandparents and guardians may be invited to join in the fun. To top it all off — activities, supplies, and lunch is provided to the participants free of charge. NDSA will seek underwriters on occasions when field trips requiring admission tickets and costs are scheduled. There might be an occasion when parents are asked to assist with the cost of tickets.
